If you watch the show This Is Us then you’re familiar with the emotional rollercoaster it can take you on.
Every so often, though, there’s a very good lesson quietly inserted into a couple lines of an episode.
Last week I caught up on the new episodes and in one of the most recent episodes the father, Jack, is talking to his son and says (I’m paraphrasing, as I can’t remember exactly what the line was)…
“You have to make up your mind and own your decisions 100%.”
This has been a recurring theme that’s come up a lot for me recently. In books I’m reading, videos I’m watching and even the T.V. shows I’ve been watching. It’s a hard thing for most of us to do – make up our minds and own our decisions 100%.
In the business world, Gary Vaynerchuk talks about being “half pregnant” in terms of owning your decisions. He says too many people that want to start their own business are “half pregnant”. They’re not fully committed to the decision they’ve made and because of this they’re not taking the actions they need to take in order to succeed long term.
This is also true in fitness and wellness. A lot of people *say* they want to be in better shape. They *say* they want to lose 50 lbs this year and completely change the way they feel. They’ve “decided” they want these things, but their actions don’t map to to those decisions. They haven’t owned their decisions 100%, they’re half pregnant.
The problem with being half pregnant? Well, there’s no such thing as “half pregnant”. You’re either pregnant or you’re not. You’re either in or out. So, if you’re going to say you want to be in better shape and decide that you’re going to lose 50 lbs this year, own it and jump all the way in.
No more excuses of not having time. No more excuses of not being able to knowing what to do. No more excuses of not knowing what to eat. No more excuses of not having time to prepare meals ahead of time. Those kinds of excuses don’t work when you’re full pregnant. That baby is coming whether you’re ready or not. Whether you have time or not.
So, my advice to you today on this Monday morning is to stop living your life “half pregnant”. Decide what you want and then own it, 100% full pregnant.
That’s the only way any of us can achieve true long term success, whether that’s building a business, losing 50 lbs this year or actually having a real child. You’ve gotta be full pregnant.
Go full pregnant.
